Bobst Library hours are posted on the web for the end of the semester and the summer at: http://library.nyu.edu/about/access.html

One big change is that the library WILL be open in the morning on Thursday, May 15, since commencement is taking place elsewhere.

**Bobst takes a break and will be closed on Saturday/Sunday, May 17-18.
**We reopen on Monday, May 19, and summer hours begin.

In mid-July, we will begin transitioning to a totally new BobCat that will make it simpler for you to find, discover, get, use, share and save all kinds of information. Searching won’t require new skills — but you’ll get more information when you search, and an array of options for finding and using the rich results you get.
As we implement the new system, you will see enhancements including:

• more powerful searching
• simultaneous searching across multiple databases
• book and article searches from same starting point
• BobCat records in non-Roman scripts, e.g., Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic
• options to save your search results for future use
• ability to export search results to RefWorks, de.lic.ious and others
• book covers associated with records
• inks to Amazon, Google Books, tables of contents
• options to contribute reviews and read those written by others

As we phase in these features, you will find yourself able to do much more with your search results—tag them, save them to your personal e-shelf, create links to other work, get all kinds of related material, share your results and much more.

We will be piloting the new system over the summer. Development will be an ongoing process and we welcome your comments about the new system so that we can continue to improve it to meet your research needs. We’ll also be looking for your ideas about additional features you’d like to see.

Bobst Library hours are being extended during the exam study period as follows:

Collections & Research Services will be holding the Bobst Book Sale in the CRS Conference Room in the corridor of the East Mezzanine on Thursday, May 1.

For this semester’s final book sale, items will be priced at 50¢, $1.00, and some selections a bit more. But in the spirit of Earth Day, a small discount will be given to customers who bring their own bags. Donations of clean, dry bags (strong enough to hold books!) are also welcome.

Proceeds will benefit the Bobst Library Endowment Fund.

This event is only open to members of the NYU community.

Details of many archival collections in NYU Libraries’ Special Collections are described in “finding aids.” Now you can search these finding aids directly from the homepage of NYU Libraries website.

NYU Libraries Special Collections include the Fales Library, The Tamiment Library & Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives, the NYU Archives. Descriptions of some collections in the New-York Historical Society are also available. For an example of a search see The Abraham Lincoln Brigade.

Bobst Library’s Ask-A-Librarian service is now available via text message (SMS) from your mobile device. Service is currently offered during business hours, as well as limited evening and weekend hours. You can text your questions to 646-265-1342.

Bobst Library is providing one-on-one research assistance for NYU students who want help locating library materials relevant to their topic. Students are invited to make an appointment with a librarian who will assist you in developing an individualized research strategy for your topic.

WHEN ARE THE CLINICS BEING HELD?

This service is designed for undergraduates but any NYU student (except Law, Medical and Dental School students) is welcome to sign up.

Graduate Students:

Why not use Spring Break to “clean up” your research and organizational skills?

The NYU Bobst Library is holding a series of workshops and clinics especially for graduate students. These sessions focus on core skills like:

• Finding citations and expanding your research
• Organizing your research using an easy personal database called RefWorks
• Finding and ordering research materials from other institutions
• …And much more

Some of the sessions are one-hour sessions on a single topic, while others are designed to give you a chance to get help with whatever questions you might have. All sessions are led by expert librarians, and take place in the Bobst Library computer labs on Lower Level 1.

So you can’t go somewhere fun in the sun for Spring Break; you can still make the rest of your semester a little less stressful and a little easier.
